JROTC Academic Competitions
The programs begin with two online preliminary rounds with each JROTC unit competing against other units from around the world. The top placing teams (24 Academic teams and 40 Leadership teams) are selected to participate in the Championship round and Symposium, held each June at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA.
The JROTC Academic Bowl tests Cadets on their knowledge by using SAT/ACT-type questions in the areas of JROTC curriculum, English, math, and science. One of the main goals of the JROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT.
The JROTC Leadership Bowl tests Cadets on their knowledge by hands-on and interactive learning. One of the main goals of the JROTC Leadership Bowl is to challenge students to think outside the box and encourage them to discover and utilize their leadership styles.
Teams are comprised of 6 Cadets (4 primary and 2 Alternate) for each team. Seniors can not be on the teams and Cadets can not be on both teams. Freshmen can not be on the Leadership Team.
